A Music Game! Rolling Stone: Drum King
Another music game is in the works. I’m serious. To be flat blunt, this is getting insane, and it’ll be very interesting to see how this one does. The release date is set for next spring, which falls after the onslaught of music-related titles to be released in the next 5-8 months. Only time will tell if there is still a market for this genre come next year.
Anyway, Rolling Stone: Drum King is the subject today, and is in development by 505 Games. The project was announced a while back as We Rock: Drum King, but now it seems the fancy folks at 505 have roped Rolling Stone into the strawberry fields of music gaming. A Wii exclusive, Drum King will turn your Wiimote and nunchuck into drumsticks and have you hammering away at the air like Arnie Grape in no time.
Even less cool than the present state of the music gaming genre is the fact that all the tracks on Drum King are covers, so you won’t be finding any tunes the way you’re used to hearing them. Worse yet is there are covers by groups like Smash Mouth and Good Charlotte; bands with songs of which people don’t want to hear the originals, let alone covers. That’s not to say there aren’t any decent tracks on the disc, however. Here’s the official list, followed by a trailer from Amazon:
