3D Realms Shuts Down
“This really pisses me off.” – Duke Nukem
3D Realms, the developer of classic the Duke Nukem series, has reportedly shut its doors today. This surprises gamers and industry people all over the world, as most were unaware that 3D Realms still had a staff.
In addition to having spent the last few years publishing titles like the Max Payne games and that lovely Cherokee-in-space shooter Prey, 3D Realms has been working on Duke Nukem Forever for the past decade and a half and can generally cite the Duke series as the reason for their existence.
Back in the day, Duke Nukem 3D was the balls and put 3D Realms on the map. You could tip strippers, turn on lightswitches, and bang into walls grunting “where is it?” all day long. Good stuff indeed, sir.
Though specifics have been sketchy, reports say that the 3D Realms situation has not hindered the ongoing Duke projects that are in the works. Take-Two, 3D Realms’ publishing partner, says they still hold the rights to publish Duke Nukem Forever. Too bad nobody will be developing it.
Maybe someday someone will. Then we can kick ass and chew bubblegum. Until then, may our favorite man RIP.
