Bethesda Confirmed as ‘Wet’ Publisher

Recently there has been a batch of rumors blowing around on the breezes of gaming intelligence that Bethesda Softworks, the beautiful bunch of people behind Fallout 3 and Oblivion, will be publishing upcoming crazy gun/sword title Wet. Today, all was confirmed in a Bethesda press release on their official blog.

Created by Artificial Mind and Movement, Wet has been tooting around without a publisher thanks to Sierra’s death as a result of the Vivendi merger. It is a slick, stylish third-person shooter that, according to Bethesda, “seamlessly blends acrobatics, gun play, and sword kills. Wet is short for wetworks — which are covert operations that get messy.” Sounds hot. And sloppy. And by gum, it sounds wet.

The main playable character is female and also happens to be voiced by Eliza Dushku, star of the recently-cancelled-before-the-first-season-ended Joss Whedon FOX show “Dollhouse,” and much-more-successful Joss Whedon show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” It might not be the most clever choice, but it was clearly done because her last name sounds wet. Dushku. Basically, this is going to be like Bullet Witch, except with approximately 400x less super suckage.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines says that they “didn’t want to pick a game with a female protagonist because we thought sex could sell and we’d get the camera to do a tight pan on her butt. That’s actually a disservice to the game. Really, we want the game to be taken seriously for what it is. The game is cool and her personality adds to it.”

I’m sure the presence of some skin-tight slacks wouldn’t hurt, though.

As if a big helping of Dushku wasn’t enough, you will also be treated to voice acting by Malcom McDowell and a script by “24″ writer Duppy Demetrius. All under the belt of Bethesda.

Good times we have ahead, perhaps perhaps.
