Champions Online Set for Mid-July
MMORPG fans have more new online gaming joy to look forward to than the recently-released Chronicles of Spellborn, just in time to ruin any chance of actually going outside and doing anything else. The PC release of new MMO Champions Online has been set for July 14, 2009. From Atari and Cryptic Studios, the duo that spawned the wildly popular City of Heroes game, this new title again capitalizes on the epic, ongoing battle between heroes and villains. A battle we have loved since our youngest days of diapers, Kool-Aid, and toy trunks full of plastic combatants.
In case you’ve missed info about the game, here’s a nutshell found on the official CO site:
With literally billions of character options allowing total customization, real-time action combat, the richly detailed Champions universe and an experienced Cryptic Studios team devoted to working directly with gamers to deliver a great gaming experience, Champions Online is set to be the premier superheroic massively multiplayer online role playing game.
Fashion your own version of Spiderman. Design a superhero hobo monkey priest. You will be able to create your own players, explore a very cool endless world and even develop your very own personal arch nemesis! Fast-paced encounters! Nonstop action! Tons of instantaneous fighting! Ka-blam! Ka-pow! Every single enemy in this game will have its own set of attributes and strengths, so the official website reports that brains will be required. Always the sign of a game with potential.
What’s even better? While July 14 is the date Atari/Cryptic will begin to ship PC versions of the game, they claim an Xbox360 version is also in development.
There is a lot to read on the Champions Online website, so check it out. Additionally, here is a video of the nemesis creation process, followed by the teaser for the overall game from ComicCon:
