In a surprise move, Bungie announced in it’s blog today that Halo 3:Recon will now be known as Halo 3: ODST. According to the post, “This new title is a more straightforward account of the experience that awaits and the role you will assume as you explore the streets of New Mombasa.“ 

Bungie also stated that there are a few more surprises in store for the people anxiously waiting for the game to drop in Fall 2009. One can only hope that it’s a big “Surprise!” post, saying that it was all a very, very early April Fools joke. Bungie also cleared up the pronunciation of the title (that’s Oh-dee-ess-tee, not ohdst) and that it is an acronym for “Orbital Drop Shock Trooper”.
