Funcom Cuts Age of Conan Staff

Things aren’t looking good for Age of Conan right now with it’s dwindling membership base, and it doesn’t appear that it’ll get better anytime soon. With Tabula Rasa basically calling it quits, it looks like Age of Conan might be another MMO that goes the way of the dodo.

TenTonHammer has confirmed that Funcom has indeed cut the staff at their US facility, although exact numbers weren’t stated. Rumors have stated that 70% of the staff has been cut however, mostly in the areas of Quality Assurance and Customer Service departments. With the layoffs of arguably the most important departments within an MMO are cut so drastically, it is only a foreshadow of the things to come.

My own experiences with Age of Conan were greeted with a resounding “Meh” and the news of the various patches didn’t thrill me enough to go back. While it may have its set player base, it appears that by the end of the year it’ll be a race between Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft.
