Blizzard’s new MMO will be “next-generation”

November 12th, 2008 by matt in PC

As Wrath of the Lich King nears release, Blizzard cannot share the spotlight as they spill some details about their next MMO. Right from the mouth of Paul Sams, Blizzard COO, comes news that Blizzards new MMO will be “next-generation” and will be quite different from World of Warcraft.

“We want to create a great game. Something that’s cool, and new, and different, and kind of next generation in terms of look and feel and gameplay. That’s a challenging endeavour.”

The game is “in the first half of development,” and as far as an announcement date, well, sit tight - Blizzard lets you know when Blizzard says so.

Blizzard divides their game development into two halves. The first half is usually the slowest, but after the game mechanics are determined the second half happens in greater speed.

Looks like we may get World of Starcraft after all.

I’m really starting to hate the term “next generation”. It should only be used when talking about consoles and even then only right before the next iteration of a console family is coming out.

Nothing is “next generation”. Everything is current generation. This is the stuff you can do with game right now. “Next generation” is the stuff you will be able to do with games on the PS4, Xbox3 and whatever Nintendo calls the successor to the Wii.

Maybe they will join forces with Mythic and make a “World of Wahammercraft: Age of the Lich Kings Reckoning”

    I can only dream.
