Max Payne tops Box Office

Seems like Mark Wahlberg did a good enough job at breaking the Video-Game-Movie curse as Max Payne hit number #1 at the box office this weekend. The movie brought in a solid $18 million while Beverly Hills Chihuahua sits at #2 with 11.2 million.
Max Payne has been receiving a fair amount of negative reviews from critics, but at least certain reviews found the title fitting.
“Max Payne couldn’t be more appropriately named. Sitting through this stylish-looking but derivative, vacuous and bullet-riddled movie inflicts maximum pain.”
- Claudia Puig – USA Today
While it is no Dark Knight, the fact that Max Payne hit #1 it is still good news for gamers that like their game related movies.

If Beverly Hills Chihuahua is its next competitor, I would think that Max Payne would have to be incredibly bad before it dropped below #1.
