PSP Plus and Resistance 2/Retribution Connectivity Revealed
John Garvin co-director of Bend Studio’s, the guys who developed the Syphon Filter Series and who are now working on Resistance Retribution for the PSP, detailed some new features for Retribution today on the PlayStation Blog.
PSP Plus will allow users their PSP 2000/3000 to their PS3 to play Retribution using a Duelshock 3 either on a TV or PSP screen. This feature disables the aim assist, adds rumble and increases the challenge level of the game. You can be pretty certain that if this feature is a success that it will be showing up in future PSP games as well.
Another feature will allow users to connect their copy of Retribution to Resistance 2 to “infect” their PSP, which will unlock a new mode to play. This mode will have Grayson, the hero of Retribution, being infected with a mutated version of the Chimeran virus which will give him the ability to breath underwater and regeneration. Grayson will also have access to the HE .44 Magnum and Plasma Grenades from Resistance 2 and will have new intel to collect. Unfortunately though this new mode only stays available till you power off your PSP.

Now we’re starting to see “Nintendo” level of connectivity between the PS3 and the PSP. And I say awesome.
Remember the kind of stuff we saw before the PSP came out? Being able to use the PSP as a controller, rear view mirror in GT, etc. I’d love to see this idea expanded on.
