Spore DRM fiasco continues…

September 12th, 2008 by matt in PC

You may be aware of the recent controversy over the DRM packaged with Spore. Now, users are reporting via the official Spore forums that they can only have one online account per copy. That means owners with families will have to by another copy or share one account.

Here is the post from user heints:

The game manual clearly states that after installation and online registration we are able to have multiple accounts per installation.

However this is not the case, nobody is allowed to have more than one single account per installation. This is a HUGE problem for people and families that share one computer.”

Here is the response from EA:

That section in the manual was a misprint and will be corrected in future printings of the manual. There is one Spore registration/account per game/serial code so you are correct in that you cannot make multiple accounts at this time. I have sent your guys’ feedback to the game team though since I can understand the desire to share a game on a system that you entire family uses.”

DRM always associates a product with negativity, and if there is enough demand users will find a way around it. Makes me wonder, is it worth it?

Oh bummer! I was so loking forward to my gaming husband and I being able to each have our own accounts. We’re not buying 2 copies for 1 machine. Thats just stupid. Now I wonder if we’ll play it at all!

  2. Ya, this is stupid. i hate it when they do this. just pull more money out of us. I mean, Console Games dont have this? No wonder everyone is going there

  3. I can’t believe all the fiasco that DRM has caused. EA needs to at least fix this for futures games, thought the most undoubtedly won’t.

Well it wont be long before cracked servers are set up so you can log in to those and bypass EA serves completely. Its not very hard, no real time coding and it would just be a log in and file library site.

  5. Time to stop buying into this crap.
